Frequently Moisturize

We often hear the importance of protecting your skin from the summer sun. But what we might not know that it is equally important to take care of your skin in the winter. The harsh wind and dry air of winter can cause skin to crack, chap and become irritated – making it even more susceptible to the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays.

There are a few tips for minimizing winter skin problems like using a humidifier because the air inside your home tends to become very dry in the winter. It is important to use a humidifier to help keep your skin from becoming dry, cracked and itchy and nasal passages from drying out. Moisturizing our skin frequently prevents skin breakouts. The more oil a moisturizer contains, the more moisture will be retained. Look for products with oil-based moisturizer or the word “ointment” on the label – they contain the most oil (approximately 80 percent oil and 20 percent water).
