When it’s chilly, sunshine feels so good on the skin. But as UV rays never really go away, sunblock is still your friend in winter. When it’s not warm outside, the last thing you’d like to broadcast to the world is that you’ve got sunblock on. Maybe they’ll think you have overactive pores at the wrong time of the year, maybe they won’t. So don’t take the risk and grab one of these instead.

Neutrogena Healthy Defense Oil-Free Sunblock Lotion SPF 45 is extremely popular because it is light and doesn’t cause breakouts, great for sensitive skin. There is also a stick variant in SPF 30. Hawaiian Tropic also has a stick in SPF 50+, aside from Oil Free Faces Sunblock SPF 30.

Lay it on thick

The Body Shop is famous for its line of body butter

If you’re not satisfied with your lotion and moisturizer, then the only way to go is to move up to body butter and night cream. Body butter is an extra-thick emollient that is usually plant-based. It is very heavy and can make your skin glow because of the heavy oil content. It is perfect for winter because it does not need reapplication even after a whole day outside. Night cream is touted for its anti-aging properties, especially in the prevention of wrinkles and crow’s feet. There’s no rule that says it can only be used at night. It can be worn during the day, although it can make your face somewhat shiny, too. The only problem is that they’re usually expensive!

A winter tan

65.jpg

So it’s the season to bundle up and cover everything but your eyes. That doesn’t mean you can’t fake a tan and pretend you just had a holiday in the tropics. The easiest way is still the simplest when timing is not on your side: a simple brush with the bronzer should be enough for an imagined one-day summer sojourn, unless you’re aiming for a ski tan sans goggle tan lines. But just because the temperatures are low doesn’t mean you shouldn’t look forward to warm sunshine. Exfoliate and moisturize weeks before summer to get the most even color when you actually get to tan in the sun, especially the areas that are already darker, like knees and elbows.

Exfoliate without drying out

64.jpg

Exfoliants remove dead cells and impurities from your skin. Exfoliating scrubs with beads or ingredients from nature have become common and may be used once a week to daily, depending on their formulation. In the winter, regular exfoliation is necessary, and as we grow older, it is recommended to exfoliate more often. The only problem is that this can exacerbate dry skin if not followed up with moisturizer. That’s why you need a hydrating moisturizer for daily use that can replenish the moisture in the skin and nourish the new layer of skin. If dryness continues, consider exfoliating less often or switching to a gentler product.

Eczema…. *shudder*

35.jpg

Eczema, or inflammation of the upper layers of the skin occurs due to dryness of the skin which is prevalent during winter. Symptoms include redness, skin edema, itching and dryness, crusting, flaking, blistering, cracking, oozing, or bleeding. A type of eczema, xerotic eczema, is dry skin that has become so serious, it turns into eczema. Limbs and the trunks are the areas most commonly affected by this type of eczema. The disorder remains mostly concentrated on the older population but there are a few cases that extend to the younger generations as well, particularly those that have dry skin disorders. The eczema worsens especially during dry winter weather.

Lip Balm vs. Lip Gloss

7.jpg

Lip gloss don’t offer protection for both sexes as they’re more categorized in the female cosmetics section. Males can find comfort in the fact that their lips can be saved from chafing by buying lip balms instead, which are less feminine.

On the other hand, females tend to shift towards lip glosses for their shiny glittery touches while offering protection as well. Unfortunately, they have to deal with it sticking to everywhere; eg. hair, other surfaces, etc.

Lip balms offer protection without turning your lips into a pair of mutated disco balls. Lip glosses are available readily and come in a variety of colors, tastes, and touches.

Lip Balm Part 3

Several people may try to avoid the less organic variety of lip balm and opt for those beeswax-based or carnauba-based lip balms. Beeswax is a form of natural wax produced by young worker bees used to build honeycombs. Carnauba is also a natural wax but produced by palms Carnauba. The wax derived from the leaves is also known as the queen of waxes and comes in hard yellow-brown flakes.

Unfortunately, there are some people who have allergic reactions to beeswax or any other products that come in touch with pollen. People should take extra precaution when handling these “natural” lip balms.

Keeping sensitive skin smooth and silky during winter is a daunting task. The list below guides you on what to do with sensitive skin during the winter season.
